Steel Tape / Steel Wire Armoured Control Cable
Armoured Control Cable (KVV22/KVV32)
Mechanically protected control cable for direct burial and harsh industrial environments
KVV22/KVV32 armoured control cable provides the same signal transmission capability as standard KVV cable with added mechanical protection from steel tape or steel wire armour. Designed for direct burial underground, outdoor installations, and industrial environments where cables are exposed to potential mechanical damage. Rated 450/750V, available in multi-core configurations.
Key features
- Steel tape armour (KVV22) or steel wire armour (KVV32)
- Suitable for direct burial without additional conduit
- PVC insulation and sheath rated 70°C
- Copper conductor (Class 2 stranded)
- Available 2-core to 37-core configurations
- Rodent and impact resistant
Typical applications
- Direct burial underground for control circuits
- Outdoor installations exposed to mechanical risk
- Chemical plants and refineries
- Mining and heavy industrial environments
- Power plant distributed control systems (DCS)
- Railway signalling and trackside control

Frequently asked questions about Armoured Control Cable (KVV22/KVV32)
Q.When should I use KVV22 vs KVV32?
KVV22 (steel tape armour) is suitable for horizontal direct burial in trenches. KVV32 (steel wire armour) provides additional tensile strength and is required for vertical installations, steep inclines, or where cables experience pulling forces during installation.
Q.Can armoured control cable be installed without conduit?
Yes. The steel armour provides mechanical protection for direct burial. Standard practice is to lay the cable on a sand bed with warning tape 300mm above.
Q.Is shielded armoured control cable available?
Yes. KVVP22 combines braided copper shielding with steel tape armour — providing both EMI protection and mechanical protection in a single cable.
Q.What is the minimum bending radius?
For armoured control cable: minimum 12 times the overall cable diameter. For example, a 19-core 1.5mm² armoured cable with 23mm OD has a minimum bend radius of 276mm.
